Morocco Favored to Host 2029 Club World Cup Alone
According to sources close to the Moroccan federation, Morocco is set to host the 2029 Club World Cup solo, one year before co-hosting the World Cup with Spain and Portugal. FIFA has not yet officially confirmed its decision.
Morocco is emerging as the strong favorite to host the 2029 Club World Cup alone, according to reports from media outlets close to the Moroccan federation. FIFA has not yet issued its official verdict on the tournament’s allocation.
Several scenarios remain under consideration in Zurich. The idea of keeping the tournament in the United States, which hosted the inaugural edition in 2025, has been discussed. A formula pairing Spain and Morocco — without Portugal — has also circulated, as a way to preview the 2030 World Cup. But it is Morocco’s solo bid that appears to be gaining ground, with the prospect of including the Moroccan champion from the 2028-2029 season among the 32 participants.
The hosting represents a significant logistical challenge. For the first edition in the United States, twelve stadiums were used to accommodate the 32-club tournament. Morocco, which had only nine venues during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, will therefore need to expand its stadium capacity over four years.
This matter fits into a busy African football agenda for Morocco. In 2030, Morocco will co-host the World Cup with Spain and Portugal, with opening matches also scheduled in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The Moroccan federation is also eyeing the final of this World Cup for its future Hassan II Stadium, a 115,000-capacity venue under construction near Casablanca — an ambition that Spain shares for Madrid’s Bernabéu.
As a reminder, the first 32-team Club World Cup concluded with Chelsea’s victory over PSG (3-0) on American soil in 2025, one year before the World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The pattern would repeat, this time on the African continent.
