The 2026 World Cup barely underway, beIN Sports finds itself at the center of controversy in France: match summaries published on its social media and YouTube channel, reduced to around one minute, are sparking a wave of criticism from supporters.

Online reactions were swift. “The summary is a snap,” “It’s shameful,” “The ads are longer than the video”: the numerous and sharp comments testify to the frustration of fans deprived of full footage for matches played in the middle of the night, such as Brazil-Morocco or Algeria-Argentina.

Facing the backlash, the channel published an official statement: “Due to our contractual obligations, we are unable to offer you clips lasting more than 60 seconds, as part of promoting the broadcast of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on our channels. Thank you for your understanding.”

Florent Houzot, editorial director of beIN Sports, clarified the editorial offerings available outside social media. “You have Good Morning America every morning with all the images and all day from 10am to 5pm; Mondial Replay with 20-minute summaries of all matches currently on B1 (…) unfortunately on our social media or digital the highlight rights are very limited,” he explained.

In France, M6 and beIN Sports share World Cup broadcasting, with the Qatari channel holding all matches. While contractual constraints imposed by FIFA on digital clips are a well-known reality in the industry, communication around these limitations apparently failed to defuse the frustration of football fans.
