Onana agrees Trabzonspor loan return as United chase Nmecha and Fernandes

Andre Onana has verbally agreed a second season-long loan at Trabzonspor, three years after Manchester United paid £47m for the goalkeeper. United are also stepping up interest in Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha, while a wage battle with Tottenham complicates their pursuit of West Ham's Mateus Fernandes.

Andre Onana has verbally agreed to spend another season on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, with the club set to pay Manchester United a loan fee for the goalkeeper they signed from Inter Milan for £47m in 2023.

Onana lost his place at Old Trafford last summer after a series of errors saw him replaced by Senne Lammens. The loan arrangement would clear a significant portion of his wages from United’s books and leave the door open for a permanent sale in 2026.

On the outfield front, United are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. Head of scouting Christopher Vivell is said to be in close contact with Nmecha’s agents as the club looks to add depth in central midfield.

The pursuit of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes is proving more complicated. The Portugal international is valued at around £80m by the Hammers, and Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as serious rivals for his signature. According to The Sun, Spurs are prepared to offer higher wages than United, a potential stumbling block given the financial gap between the two clubs’ current ambitions. United’s primary counter-argument is a place in next season’s Champions League, which Tottenham — who finished 17th in the Premier League last season — cannot offer.

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with Los Blancos reportedly open to selling the France international this summer.

In attack, Julian Alvarez and Ajax striker Brian Brobbey have emerged as targets, while the future of Marcus Rashford remains unresolved. Elliot Anderson, previously linked with United, is instead closing in on a move to Manchester City.

No signings have been officially confirmed by the club, though Brazilian midfielder Ederson is understood to be close to becoming their first arrival of the summer window.
