Olympic champion Burroughs calls out retired UFC legend GSP for Las Vegas wrestling match

Jordan Burroughs, the Olympic gold medallist and Real American Freestyle competitor, has called out UFC legend Georges St-Pierre for a freestyle wrestling match at RAF 14 in Las Vegas on October 3, naming the retired Canadian as his number-one desired opponent.

Burroughs made the challenge during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show following his RAF victory over Sean Brady on August 22. When St-Pierre’s name surfaced as a potential opponent, Burroughs left no ambiguity about his intentions.

“Yeah, Georges, if you’re out there, I would love to compete against you,” Burroughs said. “I’d love to wrestle you. I honor you. I honor your legacy. And I don’t want to embarrass you. I don’t want to humiliate you. I just would love to share the stage with you. And so, he’s No. 1. He’s at the very top of my list.”

He followed that with a direct address to the former champion: “Georges, if you’re out there and are watching this show, make it happen. Las Vegas, Oct. 3.”

St-Pierre last competed professionally in November 2017, when he submitted Michael Bisping to claim the UFC middleweight title. He officially retired from mixed martial arts in 2019 and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame the following year, making any return to competition — even in a wrestling context — a significant event.

Burroughs, a two-time Olympic medallist and multiple-time world freestyle wrestling champion, has been building his profile on the Real American Freestyle circuit. His most recent win over Brady demonstrated he remains a formidable force on the mat.

Before any potential GSP showdown can materialise, Burroughs has more immediate business to attend to. He is scheduled to face Magomed Kurbanaliev at RAF Moscow on September 5, a bout that will serve as his next test ahead of the proposed Las Vegas date.

St-Pierre has not publicly responded to the callout.
