Nine Girls4Football mascots immortalised as Topps trading cards ahead of Champions League Final
Nine girls selected as player mascots for the UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest have been given personalised Topps trading cards, the first time mascots have been commemorated in the format. All nine took part in the Girls4Football programme run by Mastercard and the UEFA Foundation for Children.
Nine girls chosen as player mascots for the UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest have been commemorated with their own limited-edition Topps trading cards — a first in the history of the competition’s mascot programme. Each card features the girl’s image in the official Mastercard Player Mascot kit, alongside a personal statement about what football means to her.
Among those surprised with their cards were Zoe Geoghegan and Sadie Diggin, both aged nine and representing the UK. Sadie, an Arsenal supporter, said: “When I opened the pack, it was such a surprise to see my own face looking back at me. I am so excited to be a mascot at the final, especially as I am an Arsenal fan, and I will make sure I tell whichever player I’m walking out with that I am just like them.”
Zoe added: “My Dad made me take a picture in the garden a few weeks ago, but I never would have thought it was to make me into a collectible card.”
Topps, the official trading card partner of the UEFA Champions League, typically reserves its cards for the sport’s biggest names. The set of nine cards created for this year’s final marks the first time player mascot cards have been produced for the competition.
The mascot places at the final are allocated to vulnerable children nominated through multiple charities, giving them the opportunity to walk out alongside players on one of football’s biggest stages. All nine girls featured on the cards have participated in the Girls4Football programme, a social impact initiative run by Mastercard and the UEFA Foundation for Children that aims to empower girls aged 8–16 through football skills and financial education. More than 1,000 sessions have been delivered to date across the UK, Hungary, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.
Beatrice Cornacchia of Mastercard said: “The magic of football lives not just in the moments on the pitch. These Topps trading cards celebrate something we believe: that matchday is an unforgettable experience for fans of all ages. By honouring the girls from the Girls4Football programme, we are showing how we are making a positive difference to these children both on the pitch and away from it.”
