Neymar set to end two-year Brazil absence against Scotland in World Cup group decider
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Neymar is fully fit and available for Brazil's 2026 World Cup Group C finale against Scotland in Miami on Wednesday, potentially ending the 34-year-old's international absence since October 2023.
Neymar is in line to make his first Brazil appearance since October 2023 when the Seleção face Scotland in their 2026 World Cup Group C finale at Miami Stadium on Wednesday, with manager Carlo Ancelotti all but confirming the forward’s involvement at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
The 34-year-old had missed Brazil’s opening two group fixtures against Morocco and Haiti after suffering a calf injury in league play with Santos FC, but Ancelotti left little doubt over his fitness heading into the decisive clash.
“He is available. He trained very well this week,” Ancelotti said. “He is fit and able and ready to play. We are very happy he is back. He is a high-quality player. He can play from halftime or the whole 90 minutes. He is very well. He worked very hard, so he is ready.”
Neymar’s last cap came in a World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on 17 October 2023. Injuries and other setbacks have since kept him from adding to his record haul of 79 international goals across 128 appearances for Brazil.
His return would represent a significant boost for the five-time world champions, who currently lead Group C on four points — level on points with Morocco but ahead on goal difference. Scotland, however, remain in contention for top spot: Steve Clarke’s side could still finish first if they beat Brazil and Morocco fail to win against Haiti.
The prospect has energised Scotland’s travelling support, with the Tartan Army making its presence felt across Miami in the days leading up to the match, gathering on South Beach and marching through Little Havana ahead of Tuesday’s Miami Marlins game. Brazilian fans have also embraced the pre-tournament atmosphere, adding to what promises to be a vibrant occasion as the group stage draws toward its conclusion.
