Newcastle smash Osasuna's 18-year transfer record with £30m bid for Víctor Muñoz
Newcastle United have submitted a formal bid worth €30-35 million plus add-ons for Osasuna winger Víctor Muñoz, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal would shatter Osasuna's record sale, though Real Madrid hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause that complicates the finances.
Newcastle United have lodged an official bid for Osasuna winger Víctor Muñoz, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that negotiations are actively ongoing on both the club and player side as all parties work toward a final agreement.
The proposed package is worth an initial €30-35 million (£26-30m) plus add-ons — a figure that would comfortably surpass Osasuna’s previous record sale, which has stood for nearly two decades since Raul Garcia joined Atlético Madrid for €13 million in 2007.
The financial structure of the deal carries a significant complication. When Real Madrid sold Muñoz to Osasuna in July 2025 for €5 million, they retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause. That means the Spanish capital club are entitled to half of whatever Newcastle ultimately pay, a windfall that is also expected to push up the overall price Osasuna demand in order to compensate for the portion they must forfeit.
Muñoz, 22, was born in Barcelona and spent his formative years at La Masia before making the controversial switch to Real Madrid’s academy in 2021. He developed steadily through their reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla, before earning a move to Osasuna ahead of last season.
Primarily a direct winger capable of playing on either flank or as an advanced forward, Muñoz contributed seven goals and five assists across 36 appearances in all competitions for a struggling Osasuna side last term. That form was enough to earn him a senior Spain debut in early 2026, where he scored in a 3-0 friendly win over Serbia.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Muñoz follows the departure of Anthony Gordon earlier this summer, with the club identifying the young Spaniard as a direct replacement for the wide attacking role. Should the deal be concluded, it would represent a significant statement of intent from the Magpies in the current transfer window.
