Musiala reveals neurological dysfunction after two fainting spells in three days
After suffering two fainting spells during Bayern Munich's matches against Leipzig and Heidenheim, Jamal Musiala broke his silence on Instagram to explain that he suffers from absence episodes caused by a neurological dysfunction, while insisting he wants to continue playing.
Jamal Musiala suffers from absence episodes linked to a neurological dysfunction, revealed the Bayern Munich playmaker in a message posted on Instagram, after suffering two fainting spells within three days during Bundesliga matches.
The first incident occurred on Saturday against Leipzig in the 86th minute, moments after Musiala had scored a goal (81st) following a substitute appearance in the 69th. The same happened on Tuesday against Heidenheim: the player lasted only eight minutes on the pitch, between the 61st and 69th minutes, before being forced to leave.
Faced with the concern raised by these images, the Bayern number 10 chose to speak out. “First of all, I’m doing well. I’ve been diagnosed with brief temporary absence episodes, easy to treat and caused by a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote, clarifying that these episodes were directly responsible for the incidents against Leipzig and Heidenheim.
Musiala was keen to reassure about the absence of any vital risk. “It may seem frightening at first, but for me, it’s now part of my daily life. I’m receiving the best medical care possible and I’m very optimistic. The important thing is that there is no other risk to my health,” he stated.
The player also explained that he personally chose, with the approval of his neurologists, to continue his career. “In close consultation with specialists, I wanted to take on this challenge and continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: living a normal life and pursuing my passion for football. I fully assume this decision.”
Musiala concluded by asking that the matter remain within the “inner circle” of his loved ones, the club and medical specialists, while highlighting Bayern Munich’s support and that of those around him during this ordeal.
