OM close to completing Todibo loan from West Ham
According to L'Équipe, Marseille has reached a contractual agreement with defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who is under contract with West Ham. The two clubs are still negotiating the terms of a loan with salary-sharing.
Olympique de Marseille is on the verge of signing its first player of the summer transfer window: the Phocaean club has concluded a contractual agreement with French international defender Jean-Clair Todibo, 26, currently struggling at West Ham, according to L’Équipe.
OM wants to acquire the player on loan, sharing his salary with the Hammers. While a principle agreement exists between the club and the player, the two teams have not yet found common ground on financial terms. Discussions are ongoing.
This move comes in a particularly constrained transfer market context for Marseille. Under DNCG supervision, the club must absolutely register departures before finalizing arrivals. Sporting director Grégory Lorenzi confirmed this last week: “We need to sell players before we can wrap up new signings. We’re working on it. Today, there are players who should join us in case of departures. There are clubs that don’t necessarily accept what we want. It’s not a pleasant situation, but we’re going to try to unlock this transfer window.”
Formed at FC Barcelona and having played for Nice and Juventus, Todibo joined West Ham in summer 2024. His limited playing time at the Hammers opens the door to a loan departure, and Marseille intends to take advantage of it to strengthen its defence before the market closes.
