FC Barcelona officially confirmed on Tuesday evening the transfer of Rodri from Manchester City for €70 million. The 30-year-old Spanish defensive midfielder and reigning Ballon d’Or winner becomes the Catalan club’s fourth summer signing.
After seven years under Pep Guardiola’s management, where he won everything with Manchester City, Rodri wanted to return to Spain. Despite Real Madrid’s interest, the former Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid player ultimately chose the blaugrana camp.
His arrival significantly strengthens an already dense midfield. Rodri will reunite with his international teammates and World Cup winners Pedri and Dani Olmo, as well as Gava, Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal and Marc Casado.
Barcelona had already recruited forwards Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer, as well as left-back Joao Cancelo returning from loan. In terms of departures, Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres left the club.
