Olympique de Marseille’s injury list is growing during the international break. Amine Gouiri left the field in the 20th minute during Algeria’s 3-1 victory over Zambia on Friday evening after feeling pain in his left thigh. The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed the diagnosis the following morning.

« Medical examinations to which striker Amine Gouiri submitted on Saturday morning revealed a muscle injury to the left thigh, after he left the field with an injury during Algeria’s match against Zambia », the FAF stated in a statement. The federation specified that the striker would be released from the squad on Sunday morning after a mandatory rest period.

According to La Provence, Gouiri should be sidelined for « about a week », which would give him time to be available for the home match against Troyes on October 11, when Ligue 1 resumes.

This new setback adds to a string of bad luck for the Marseille club. Derek Cornelius, injured in the hip, is not expected to return to competition before 2027. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Amine Harit are also in the medical room. OM therefore approaches the second half of the season with an already severely depleted squad.
