Mourinho refuses Florentino Perez's €150M galáctico signing
Newly appointed Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is at odds with president Florentino Perez over summer transfers: the Portuguese coach believes his attack is already well-stocked and prefers to strengthen midfield and left flank instead.
José Mourinho and Florentino Perez are already showing a major disagreement over Real Madrid’s summer transfer window: the new Portuguese manager refuses to validate the purchase of a renowned striker for €150 million, a campaign promise made by the Madrid president during his re-election.
According to journalist Miguel Serrano of Radio Marca, Mourinho believes his attacking department is already sufficiently equipped and that it is not opportune to add another player there. The “Special One” would prefer to direct this budget towards midfield and the left flank of defence, positions he had identified as priorities even before taking office.
This disagreement comes as three signings are about to be officially announced. The arrivals of Ibrahima Konaté (Liverpool), Bernardo Silva (Manchester City) and Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan) are well advanced, for a total cost of around €20 million: the first two were out of contract, only the Dutchman required a transfer fee.
Florentino Perez, meanwhile, is holding firm on his “galáctico”. His initial target, Julian Alvarez, declined Real Madrid’s offer despite the club’s interest. The president is therefore seeking another option at €150 million, in line with the commitment made to his voters during re-election.
The question now is who—Mourinho or Perez—will direct the rest of Real Madrid’s transfer window. Will the president ultimately impose his flagship signing, or will he align with his manager’s tactical vision?
