Mexico’s Round of 32 World Cup match against Ecuador at Mexico City Stadium has been delayed to 10 p.m. ET on Tuesday after heavy rain and active lightning warnings swept across Mexico City, pushing the scheduled 9 p.m. ET kickoff back by one hour.
Officials announced the postponement approximately an hour before the original start time, with the delay set to last until the lightning passes. As a consequence of the later kickoff, hydration breaks that had been planned for the match will no longer take place.
The winner of the tie will advance to the Round of 16, where they will face either England or DR Congo.
