The goal came five days after a brace against Senegal (3-1), which allowed France to start the competition with a convincing victory. In that match, Mbappé had already broken Olivier Giroud’s international goal record, which stood at 57.
With this latest goal against Iraq, the Real Madrid striker brings his total to 59 goals in a France shirt. The occasion carries added significance: it marks his 100th cap for the French national team.
