Mbappé scores double predicted by Nagui ten days earlier against Senegal
On June 6, broadcaster Nagui predicted on France 2 that Mbappé would score two goals in France's opening match at the 2026 World Cup. Ten days later, the French captain did exactly that against Senegal (3-1).
Kylian Mbappé scored a brace against Senegal in France’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup on June 16 at MetLife Stadium, securing a 3-1 victory for Les Bleus in Group I — and vindicating a prediction made ten days earlier by broadcaster Nagui.
On June 6, on the set of the show « Quelle époque! » broadcast on France 2, Nagui was debating with sports journalist Daniel Riolo about the French captain’s plummeting popularity. Riolo painted a bleak picture: criticism of Mbappé was mounting, whether over his individualism on the pitch or his political statements. « Until the day he scores two in the opening match and we stop talking about it, » Nagui replied, matter-of-factly.
Reality followed the script to the letter. Present in the stands at MetLife Stadium for the match, the broadcaster was able to witness his prediction come true firsthand. He took the opportunity to photograph his son Adrien alongside the Real Madrid striker after the match.
Mbappé’s performance came at a time when the player was seeking to silence doubts. Criticized for excessive individualism and media appearances deemed divisive, the French captain answered on the pitch from the moment France entered the competition.
