Mason Greenwood to AS Roma: Salary deal close, but competition intensifies
Author of 26 goals and 11 assists this season with Marseille, Mason Greenwood is attracting interest from multiple clubs. AS Roma, which would offer him €4.5M per year until 2031, faces competition from other Serie A clubs and Fenerbahçe.
Mason Greenwood is expected to leave Olympique de Marseille during the summer 2026 transfer window. AS Roma is in pole position to sign the 24-year-old English striker, with a contract agreement described as imminent by the Italian press, but several competitors could drive up the price.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, the Roman club is preparing to make an initial offer of €40 million excluding bonuses for the former Manchester United player, while Marseille is demanding €50 million. On the salary front, Greenwood would be offered €4.5M per year under a contract running until 2031.
Roma’s interest is no surprise: the club is currently third in Serie A and directly qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2026-2027, a prospect that would not leave the striker indifferent. But the Giallorossi are not alone in the race. Fabrizio Romano reports that other Serie A clubs are also monitoring the situation, while BBC Sport and FootMaç mention interest from Fenerbahçe.
The fuss around Greenwood is explained by a remarkable 2025-2026 season: 26 goals and 11 assists in 45 matches across all competitions. Statistics that contrast with Marseille’s financial situation, described as difficult, and which make his departure increasingly likely.
If the transfer to Roma goes through, Greenwood would reunite with Robinio Vaz, his former Marseille teammate signed by Roma during the winter transfer window for €22 million. The young French striker has not yet managed to establish himself in the Italian capital, with his playing time remaining very limited since his arrival.
