Mary Earps returns to English football with London City Lionesses after two years at PSG
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has signed with Women's Super League side London City Lionesses, ending a two-season spell with Paris Saint-Germain. The 33-year-old, a Euro 2022 winner, will officially join the club on 1 July.
Mary Earps is returning to English football after two seasons in France, signing for Women’s Super League club London City Lionesses with effect from 1 July. The 33-year-old spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain following her departure from Manchester United and is now set to bring her experience to one of the WSL’s newer clubs.
Earps was a central figure in England’s most successful recent era, playing a key role in the squad that won Euro 2022 and reached the 2023 World Cup final. She retired from international football last year but remains one of the most recognisable goalkeepers in the women’s game.
The goalkeeper cited the club’s culture and long-term ambitions as key factors in her decision, pointing specifically to plans for a new training facility as evidence of the direction London City Lionesses are heading. She said the club’s values, vision, and ambition aligned with her own goals.
London City Lionesses, owned by American billionaire Michele Kang, completed their debut WSL season with a sixth-place finish — a solid foundation for a club still establishing itself at the top level. Earps acknowledged the competitive nature of the division and framed her move as part of a push to help the club climb the table.
Kang has invested heavily in women’s football across multiple clubs, and London City Lionesses have moved quickly to build a squad capable of challenging the WSL’s established sides. The addition of Earps, a goalkeeper with elite tournament experience, represents a significant statement of intent as the club looks to improve on that debut campaign.
