Marseille set £47.5m asking price for Greenwood as Fenerbahce and Roma circle
Marseille will demand at least £43.2m up front before entertaining offers for Mason Greenwood this summer, with Fenerbahce's president-elect claiming a four-year deal is already agreed and Roma also in pursuit.
Marseille have placed a £47.5 million price tag on Mason Greenwood, with the French club insisting they will not entertain a cut-price sale of the 24-year-old England-born forward this summer. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports the Ligue 1 side want a minimum of £43.2m up front, before any add-ons, to sanction his departure from the Stade Vélodrome.
Greenwood has spent two seasons in France following his £26m move from Manchester United in 2024, scoring 48 goals and establishing himself as one of Marseille’s most dangerous attackers. That prolific return has attracted serious interest from across Europe, with Fenerbahce and Roma emerging as the two most credible suitors.
Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi has gone as far as declaring the deal done, making Greenwood’s arrival a centrepiece of his election campaign. “We have signed a four-year agreement with Mason Greenwood,” Safi said. “He has proven himself at the highest level of European football. He has agreed to join Fenerbahçe during the most valuable and productive years of his career. I said I would bring a star player. Today, I am experiencing the justified pride of keeping my promise.”
Whether Safi’s claim carries formal weight remains to be seen, but it signals the level of intent from the Turkish club’s camp. Roma, meanwhile, represent a compelling alternative destination. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has made no secret of his desire to sign Greenwood, and the Serie A club will compete in the Champions League next season after finishing third in Italy — a factor that could prove decisive in any negotiations.
Manchester United retain a significant financial stake in the outcome. The Old Trafford club inserted a 40 percent sell-on clause into Greenwood’s original transfer agreement, meaning a sale at Marseille’s asking price could generate a windfall of around £17m for United before add-ons are factored in.
Greenwood was signed for Marseille by then-head coach Roberto de Zerbi, who left the club midway through last season. Habib Beye has since taken charge, and it will fall to the new manager to navigate a summer that could see the club’s standout forward depart for a significant fee.
