Manchester United post £37.7m operating profit as Berrada cites on-pitch turnaround
Manchester United recorded an operating profit of £37.7 million for the nine months to 31 March, reversing a £3.2 million loss in the same period a year earlier. CEO Omar Berrada credited cost-cutting measures and improved Premier League performances for the financial swing.
Manchester United recorded an operating profit of £37.7 million for the nine months ending 31 March, the club’s third-quarter fiscal results show — a sharp reversal from the £3.2 million operating loss posted in the equivalent period a year ago.
The club attributed the improvement to cost-cutting measures introduced under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board, as well as stronger Premier League results that have boosted commercial and matchday revenues.
Chief executive Omar Berrada said the club felt “very positive” about its trajectory. “Finishing third in the Premier League and securing qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League is testament to our men’s team’s improved form on the pitch,” he said in a statement accompanying the results.
Berrada also highlighted the contribution of head coach Michael Carrick, who has overseen 17 games since taking charge. “Michael Carrick has done an excellent job in the 17 games he has overseen and we are delighted that he will continue as head coach,” the CEO added.
Beyond the men’s first team, Berrada pointed to progress across the club’s other squads. The women’s team reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the final of the League Cup for the first time, while the academy sides reached the FA Youth Cup and PL2 play-off finals.
The results represent a significant milestone for Ratcliffe’s ownership group, which took a controlling stake in the club’s football operations and has since moved to reduce costs and restructure the business. The return to operating profit — and the securing of Champions League revenue for next season — will provide further financial headroom as the club looks to invest in the squad.
