Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the Brazilian due to undergo his medical in New York this Sunday while representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, according to Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport.

The Red Devils have already struck an agreement with Atalanta worth a £34.9 million fixed fee, plus up to £3.8 million in potential add-ons. Ederson has agreed personal terms on a four-year contract that includes an option for a further 12 months.

The transfer had been complicated by Ederson’s late call-up to the Brazil squad following an injury setback, but the medical in New York signals the deal is now close to completion.

Adding midfield reinforcements is a clear priority for United this summer under Michael Carrick, who has guided the club back into the Champions League after an impressive 2026 campaign. The departure of Casemiro — whose contract has expired — has created an urgent need for cover, and the club are also open to offers for Manuel Ugarte.

Ederson is expected to be the first of two midfield signings, with United reportedly targeting a player already operating in the Premier League to partner him. The club have been linked with Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, and Adam Wharton, as well as Elliot Anderson — though Anderson is said to prefer a move to neighbours Manchester City.

Beyond midfield, United are understood to be in the market for a left-back, a left-winger, and potentially a striker as Carrick looks to reshape his squad.

England manager Thomas Tuchel indicated he would not obstruct transfer business for players in his camp, provided it is handled discreetly. “If it is quietly done, privately done, done efficiently, we are always happy to help to have clarity around the player,” Tuchel said. “I think the best we can have is clarity. If anyone has the chance to complete a change of club and a transfer, we will not stand in the way.”
