Manchester United add Everton's Iliman Ndiaye to left-winger shortlist this summer
Manchester United are monitoring Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye as they look to sign a left-winger during the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Senegal international has not yet been the subject of a formal approach, but United view him as a more affordable alternative to RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers.
Manchester United have placed Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye on their summer transfer shortlist as manager Michael Carrick looks to add a left-winger to his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League. No formal approach has been made for the 26-year-old Senegal international, but he is being tracked at Old Trafford.
The urgency to sign a winger has eased somewhat since the start of the year, with Patrick Dorgu’s development in the role and Matheus Cunha’s performances there giving Carrick workable alternatives. The position nonetheless remains a priority for the window.
United had previously shown interest in RB Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande, but Liverpool are now considered frontrunners for the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international, with Leipzig holding out for £86 million. Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, 23, is another name being monitored at Old Trafford — the England international can operate from the left and is also seen as a potential long-term successor to Bruno Fernandes in the No. 10 role. However, United would face fierce competition for Rogers from several Premier League clubs and European sides, with Villa expected to field offers as they look to fund a squad restructure.
Ndiaye is viewed as a more financially realistic target. He featured on both flanks for Everton last season and can also play as a No. 10, adding to the attacking flexibility Carrick already has at his disposal. Across 71 appearances for the Toffees, the forward has scored 17 goals and contributed three assists since joining from Marseille for £15 million two years ago.
Everton insist they are not under pressure to sell, and Ndiaye has three years left on his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Reports have emerged, however, suggesting he has turned down proposals for a new deal, which could prompt the club to consider offers this summer and potentially secure a significant profit on their original outlay.
United’s transfer activity is not limited to the wide positions. The club are also expected to bring in at least one, and possibly two, central midfielders this window, with Atalanta’s Ederson already having agreed terms on a move to Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £38.3 million.
