The club is expected to appeal the decision. A City spokesperson confirmed the process is ongoing, stating: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such, Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.”

The spokesperson added that the club had “diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

The charges relate to alleged failures to provide accurate financial information, including details of payments made to players and coaches. Manchester City have consistently denied the allegations, which encompass breaches of Financial Fair Play rules and Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

During the period covered by the charges — 2009 to 2018 — City won three Premier League titles: in 2011/12 and 2013/14 under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini respectively, and in 2017/18 under Pep Guardiola, the season in which the club accumulated a then-record 100 points.
