Manchester City have tied down teenage prospect Divine Mukasa to a new contract extension, keeping the 18-year-old at the Etihad Stadium until 2030 — one year beyond his previous deal.

Mukasa joined City from West Ham in 2023 and broke into first-team football with the club last season before spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Leicester City. Director of Football Hugo Viana confirmed the club’s belief in the attacking midfielder’s long-term potential.

“In Divine, I feel we have someone with huge potential,” Viana said. “Since he came to City in 2023, he has consistently improved and developed. He works hard, shows humility and is eager to learn. That is a great combination for any young footballer. He has shown really positive development throughout his loan at Leicester, and we are excited to see him develop further over the coming seasons.”

Mukasa is expected to be part of City’s first-team setup this summer and travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia, where the club will be without several senior players due to World Cup commitments. Whether he remains in the first-team picture for the full season or moves out on loan will depend on finding the right fit for all parties.

The player himself expressed ambition to compete at the highest level after his early taste of senior football. “My taste of first-team football at City earlier last season has only furthered my ambition to compete at the highest level,” Mukasa said. “Once you’re exposed to men’s football and playing in a stadium, you never really want to go back.”

Mukasa also credited the club’s environment for his rapid development. “Working with the best coaches, the best players, you improve so much. It is a good platform for me,” he added. “The end goal for me in football is what should keep me going — you can never get comfortable as everything can change so quickly.”

At 18, Mukasa represents one of City’s more promising academy prospects, and the extension signals the club’s intention to keep his development firmly in-house while weighing up the best path to regular senior football.
