Makhachev breaks UFC win record with decision over Garry at UFC 330
Islam Makhachev surpassed Anderson Silva's all-time UFC record with his 17th consecutive victory, defeating Ian Garry by unanimous decision in Philadelphia. Mackenzie Dern also retained her strawweight title on a card packed with finishes.
Islam Makhachev etched his name into UFC history at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia on August 16, defeating Ian Garry by unanimous decision at UFC 330 to set the record for the longest winning streak in promotional history. The Dagestani champion’s 17th straight victory surpassed the mark previously held by former middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva, with judges scoring the welterweight title fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.
Garry made it a competitive night, troubling Makhachev with his striking through the middle rounds and keeping the fight close heading into the fifth. It was ultimately Makhachev’s grappling that proved decisive: a late takedown in the final frame allowed him to take Garry’s back and lock in a body triangle, neutralising his opponent and seeing out the championship rounds in control.
In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern (17-5) successfully defended the UFC women’s strawweight title against Gillian Robertson (17-9) via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it identically to the main event at 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47. Dern dictated the fight by dragging it to the mat at every opportunity, threatening with a rear-naked choke late in Round 1 before Robertson survived to the final bell. The win marks Dern’s first title defence, extends her winning streak to four, and cements her standing among the sport’s elite pound-for-pound fighters.
Earlier on the card, Jalin Turner (16-9) needed just 39 seconds to flatten Kaue Fernandes (11-3), countering a spinning backfist with a left hook that dropped his opponent before referee Jason Herzog waved it off. It was Turner’s second straight Octagon victory.
In a 185-pound bout, local fighter Dustin Stoltzfus (17-8) submitted Mansur Abdul-Malik (9-2-1) with 35 seconds remaining in Round 2, snapping a two-fight losing skid. Stoltzfus entered as the underdog but proved the superior grappler, seizing Abdul-Malik’s back and finishing the fight from a dominant position.
