Luis Enrique leaves Digne out of PSG squad for Monaco clash in Ligue 1

Lucas Digne will not be included in PSG's squad for Friday evening's Ligue 1 home match against Monaco. It is a deliberate choice by Luis Enrique, who expects more from the left-back signed last summer.

Lucas Digne has been left out of the Paris squad for AS Monaco’s visit this Friday at Parc des Princes, closing out matchday 3 of Ligue 1. According to insider Djamel, it is purely a sporting decision by Luis Enrique, unrelated to injury.

Signed over the summer to provide cover for Nuno Mendes on the left flank, the 33-year-old left-back has struggled to impress since the start of the season. He had a difficult outing in the Trophée des Champions against Lens, then remained on the bench during the opening league match at Rennes.

During last Friday’s trip to Lille (2-2), with Nuno Mendes suspended, Luis Enrique chose to deploy Warren Zaïre-Emery in that position rather than give Digne a chance. A strong signal that is now confirmed by this fresh exclusion.

The Spanish coach is thus sending a clear message to the French international: his current level does not meet the standards of the back-to-back European champions.
