Liverpool tell Alisson they want him to stay as Juventus move fades

Liverpool have directly told Alisson Becker they want him as their first-choice goalkeeper for the 2026/27 season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Brazilian had agreed personal terms with Juventus, but the Italian club's failure to qualify for the Champions League appears to have cooled the move.

Liverpool have told Alisson Becker directly that they want him to remain at Anfield for the 2026/27 season, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club’s intervention has effectively stalled a move to Juventus that had appeared increasingly likely.

The Brazilian goalkeeper, who had agreed personal terms with Juventus after receiving a multi-year offer from the Serie A club in April, now looks set to stay on Merseyside. Romano said: “Liverpool told Alisson ‘we want you to stay, we want you to be our goalkeeper, we believe in you.’ Now it’s on Alisson. He was tempted by Juventus, for sure, but Alisson was probably considering an exit only in case Liverpool said ‘okay, you can go.’” Romano added that Alisson “never wanted to break his relationship or legacy with Liverpool as a legend.”

Alisson’s potential departure had been a significant concern at Anfield following an injury-disrupted season in which Georgian deputy Giorgi Mamardashvili stepped in regularly. Mamardashvili kept just two clean sheets in 10 Premier League appearances, conceding 18 goals, as Liverpool finished the campaign with the lowest points tally to secure Champions League qualification in a 38-game Premier League season.

Juventus’s own situation has also shifted the calculus considerably. The Turin club missed out on Champions League football after a 2-2 draw with Torino on the final day of the Serie A season, with Cesc Fàbregas’s Como claiming the last qualifying spot following a 4-1 win over Cremonese. The prospect of Europa League football at Juventus represents a significantly less attractive proposition for a goalkeeper of Alisson’s standing.

The 32-year-old, a two-time Premier League Golden Glove winner and a key figure in Liverpool’s 2019/20 title triumph, may have played what could have been his final home game during the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Brentford — the same match in which Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson also made their Anfield farewells. Should Alisson heed Liverpool’s call to stay, he would be the one high-profile departure that did not materialise from a summer that has already seen two club icons leave.
