Liverpool submit £86.7m offer for Yan Diomande as RB Leipzig respond to approach
Liverpool have informed RB Leipzig they are willing to pay close to €100m for Ivory Coast midfielder Yan Diomande, according to reports, as the club moves to reshape its attack following Mohamed Salah's expected departure.
Liverpool have made a formal approach to RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande, signalling their willingness to pay approximately €100 million (£86.7m) to secure the Ivory Coast international this summer, according to a report from The Athletic.
The move comes just days after Liverpool completed the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5m, a deal that saw the Reds dramatically hijack a transfer that had appeared destined to take the Spanish winger to Newcastle. Munoz has since been officially confirmed as a Liverpool player.
Diomande has emerged as a priority target as Liverpool look to overhaul their attacking options ahead of next season. The club’s need for reinforcements has been sharpened by the anticipated departure of Mohamed Salah, whose exit would leave a significant void in Arne Slot’s squad.
RB Leipzig’s response to Liverpool’s opening approach has not been reported as an outright rejection, though the German club are under no obligation to sell and a fee in the region of £86.7m would represent a substantial outlay. Liverpool’s willingness to table such a figure underlines the seriousness of their interest.
The 22-year-old Diomande has drawn widespread attention following his performances for both Leipzig and the Ivory Coast national team, establishing himself as one of the more coveted young attackers in European football. Should Liverpool complete the deal, it would represent their second major attacking acquisition of the summer window.
