Liverpool have rejected Inter Milan’s second bid for Curtis Jones, telling the Serie A champions they do not wish to continue negotiations after the Italian club’s £21m proposal fell far short of the Reds’ £40m valuation of the midfielder.

Inter’s offer of €25m represented their latest attempt to sign the England international, but Liverpool dismissed it as a significant undervaluation. The rejection comes despite Jones entering the final year of his contract at Anfield, meaning Liverpool risk losing him on a free transfer next summer if no deal — either a sale or a renewal — is reached.

Despite that looming deadline, Liverpool have not given up hope that Jones will commit to a new contract and remain on Merseyside. The club’s stance on his price is informed by broader midfield market values: Manchester City have offered over £100m for Elliot Anderson, while Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are expected to command significantly higher fees than Inter have proposed. Liverpool have also noted that Tottenham paid £52m for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who, like Jones, had just one year remaining on his deal.

Inter’s interest in Jones dates back to the end of the January transfer window. The pursuit gained a personal dimension when Liverpool’s Italy international Federico Chiesa recently revealed that the 24-year-old had been asking him about life at the Milan club — a disclosure that underlined Jones’s own curiosity about a potential move.

Jones made 49 appearances for Liverpool last season but started only 18 Premier League matches, and finished the campaign filling in at right-back under Arne Slot rather than in his natural midfield role. His versatility and age make him an attractive target, but Liverpool’s firm stance signals they will not accept a cut-price exit for a player they continue to value highly.
