Liverpool learn Minteh's £70m price tag as Barcola deal described as 'very likely'
Liverpool have been told Brighton want over £70m for Yankuba Minteh after two bids were rejected, while a separate pursuit of PSG winger Bradley Barcola is reportedly close to a breakthrough before the September 1 deadline.
Liverpool are pushing on two attacking transfer fronts as the club’s new Premier League era under Andoni Iraola gets underway, with Brighton demanding more than £70m for winger Yankuba Minteh and a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola described as “very likely” to be completed before the window closes on September 1.
Minteh price revealed
Liverpool have had two bids for Minteh rejected by Brighton, with an opening offer of £50m turned down before a follow-up worth £60m met the same fate. The Seagulls are holding firm at over £70m including add-ons for the Gambian international, who has emerged as one of the most sought-after wingers in the Premier League.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein said on Saturday that Liverpool’s pursuit “definitely stands a chance”, but noted the club have alternative targets if the figures around Minteh prove unworkable. Whether Liverpool are prepared to meet Brighton’s valuation remains unclear.
Barcola move edging closer
BBC Sport report that Liverpool’s long-running chase of Barcola is “very likely” to result in an agreement with PSG, despite the deal having dragged through much of the summer window. French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, speaking on the After Foot podcast, also indicated a move could materialise if certain conditions are met.
PSG’s recruitment activity this summer has made Barcola’s departure look increasingly inevitable. The French club have added Ferran Torres, Mika Godts, and Maghnes Akliouche as attacking reinforcements, reducing Barcola’s role in Luis Enrique’s plans.
A thin squad for the opener
Liverpool travel to St James’ Park on Sunday to face Newcastle United in their Premier League opener — a fixture that will also mark the official start of the Iraola era at Anfield. The squad available to the new head coach is leaner than many supporters had anticipated, with only Victor Munoz, loanee Ronald Araujo, and Jeremy Jaquet among the new arrivals likely to feature.
The club also lost Curtis Jones this weekend, with the academy graduate completing a move to Inter Milan. That departure adds further urgency to Liverpool’s attempts to land Minteh and Barcola before the transfer window shuts.
