Kylian Mbappé failed to make the difference on The Voice Kids stage. On Saturday evening, while the captain of the France national team was playing in the Madrid derby against Espanyol in La Liga, his image appeared on the giant screens of the TF1 studio to support his friend M. Pokora.

As part of a new feature introduced this season, called “calling a friend” — a format reminiscent of the famous game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? — the coaches of the show can bring in outside personalities to convince young talents to join their team.

M. Pokora therefore played his trump card by broadcasting a video message from the Real Madrid striker, addressed directly to a contestant named Jude. “I know you have a difficult choice to make because there are many contenders,” Mbappé said. “With Matt, you have a coach who knows how to bring out the best in his talents and who has already led many of his talents to victory. I think it would be a very good choice for you. Just to tell you that he’s a winner, even sometimes a sore loser, but he’s great for you. Good luck.”

Despite the intervention of French football’s most high-profile player, the young singer was not convinced. Jude ultimately opted for Patrick Fiori’s team, one of the other coaches on the show, leaving M. Pokora and his illustrious reinforcement empty-handed.
