Liverpool edges PSG in race for Yan Diomandé after brilliant World Cup
Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé (19) from Leipzig, previously linked with PSG, is now reportedly closer to Liverpool, according to journalist Abdellah Boulma. Leipzig hopes to convince him to extend his contract by one year.
Liverpool has emerged as the leading contender for Yan Diomandé, according to journalist Abdellah Boulma, relegating PSG to second place in this pursuit. German club Leipzig, meanwhile, is seeking to retain the 19-year-old Ivorian winger for an additional season.
Diomandé boosted his market value at the 2026 World Cup, delivering a standout performance against Ecuador (Côte d’Ivoire’s 1-0 victory). Named man of the match, the Abidjan native confirmed he ranks among Europe’s most sought-after young wingers.
PSG’s name had circulated insistently in recent days, particularly as the player himself expressed his attachment to the Parisian club in a press conference. “It’s a team I’ve loved since I was young. I believe my father was a PSG supporter. It’s a team I admire,” he declared during the World Cup. But according to Boulma, Paris is not in pole position: “Liverpool now appears as the most credible contender.”
When asked about his future after the Elephants’ victory, Diomandé sidestepped the question with a touch of humour: “I’ve already spoken ten times, it’s not my job to talk.” Pressed on a possible Premier League move this summer, he left the door open: “Ah, I don’t know! I’m a Leipzig player but why not! I’m focused on my World Cup, I’m making the most of it and we’ll see about the rest.”
The situation remains fluid: Leipzig is banking on a contract extension, Liverpool has established itself as favourite, and PSG, despite the player’s declarations of affection, appears for now to be falling behind in this matter.
