Liverpool and PSG both pursue RB Leipzig teenager Yan Diomande as Salah successor
Liverpool face direct competition from Champions League holders PSG in the race to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, 19, who is also weighing a contract extension at his current club. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the decision rests with the player.
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are both pursuing RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande as the Reds look to replace Mohamed Salah, who made his final Premier League appearance in a 1-1 draw at Brentford on the last day of the season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old sits at the top of PSG’s summer shortlist, with the French club’s interest substantial enough that the final call will rest with Diomande himself. “Yan Diomande is absolutely in the shortlist, on top of their shortlist at Paris Saint-Germain and at Liverpool,” Romano said. “The player is considering his options — in terms of project, in terms of contract, in terms of development, in terms of manager — so there will be conversations with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain to decide the best option possible.”
The competition from PSG adds a significant complication for Arne Slot’s side. The Parisians knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League in consecutive seasons, most recently eliminating them 4-0 on aggregate at the quarter-final stage.
A third option remains on the table. Leipzig are preparing a contract extension that would include a salary increase and a release clause, keeping Diomande at the club until at least 2027 and giving him additional time before committing to a move.
Diomande’s form this season makes the interest from Europe’s elite unsurprising. The teenager registered 21 goal involvements in 36 appearances and led the Bundesliga’s dribbling charts by a considerable margin, averaging 3.6 successful dribbles per game at a 60% completion rate — well clear of second-placed Antonio Nusa on 2.2 and 53%.
Salah’s departure leaves Liverpool without their leading goal threat and top assist provider of the Premier League era. The Egyptian set up Curtis Jones for Liverpool’s goal against Brentford on Sunday, finishing the season as the club’s leading provider of Premier League assists. Andy Robertson also played his final match for the club in the same fixture.
