Frank Lampard is on the verge of signing a new contract with Coventry City, ending speculation that linked him with a return to the Premier League as a manager this summer, according to The Telegraph.

Lampard took charge at Coventry in November 2024 and delivered an eye-catching Championship title triumph, with the Sky Blues scoring a remarkable 97 goals across the campaign. The result was Coventry’s first promotion to the top flight in 25 years, and it significantly raised Lampard’s profile as one of the more sought-after managers in English football.

With only one year remaining on his current deal, rumours circulated throughout the summer that the former Chelsea and England midfielder could be tempted away. Crystal Palace and Fulham were both credited with interest after parting ways with Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva respectively at the end of the season.

However, Lampard is understood to be settled at the club and has already been working on pre-season preparations alongside Coventry owner Doug King. The Telegraph reports that a new deal is now at an advanced stage, effectively ruling him out of the running for either vacancy.

Palace have since moved on, appointing Pierre Sage — named Ligue 1 Manager of the Year after guiding Lens to a maiden Coupe de France trophy and Conference League qualification — as their new head coach. Fulham, meanwhile, are reported to be weighing up a move for Alvaro Arbeloa, who left Real Madrid following the club’s confirmation that Jose Mourinho will return to the Bernabeu for a second spell.

For Coventry, securing Lampard’s signature represents a major statement of intent as they prepare for their first Premier League season since 2001.
