Kroenke and Arteta gift Gary Neville signed Arsenal shirt after Premier League title win
Arsenal co-owner Josh Kroenke and manager Mikel Arteta presented Gary Neville with a signed shirt inscribed 'Our best supporter' during a podcast recording at the club's training ground, following the Gunners' first Premier League title in 22 years.
Arsenal co-owner Josh Kroenke and manager Mikel Arteta presented Gary Neville with a personalised signed shirt at the club’s training ground, honouring the former Manchester United defender as the Gunners celebrated their first Premier League title in 22 years.
The gesture came during a Champions special edition of The Overlap podcast, recorded at Arsenal’s training facility as part of the club’s title celebrations. Kroenke approached Neville mid-conversation with Arteta and handed him a gift bag. “On behalf of our entire club, we have a little present,” Kroenke said, adding: “I think you’ll love it, Gary.”
Inside were two Arsenal shirts — one bearing the name of Ian Wright, the other Neville’s own — both signed by Arteta. The inscription on Neville’s shirt read: “Our best supporter.”
Arteta explained the backstory behind the gift. “Gary was here a few weeks ago, we spent some time together, we had a coffee, and we had a very good full discussion,” the Spaniard said. “So I gave him that shirt, and I said, when we win it please, you have to put it on. He didn’t say yes, that was my suggestion, that’s enough.”
Neville, visibly moved, replied: “Thank you so much, that will get framed, it will go in my house. Thank you, you deserve it.”
The warm exchange carries added context given that Neville had drawn criticism from some Arsenal supporters earlier in the season for appearing to celebrate Manchester City’s win over Liverpool too enthusiastically — a result that had tightened the title race and piled pressure on the Gunners.
Arsenal confirmed their status as champions when Manchester City failed to beat AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, with the squad watching the decisive match together at their training ground. They lifted the trophy in person on Sunday after a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Reflecting on the achievement, Arteta said: “It’s been much better than I could ever imagine, it’s been so emotional, so natural, and to see that much joy, happiness and pride around the club, it’s just amazing. It’s a lot of joy and relief — when you are able to take the club and make the right steps, and take it really close, it’s great, but it’s not what we’re looking for, and I know at this club, that is not enough. So, to actually do it, it feels amazing.”
