Klopp's agent dismisses 'annoying' Real Madrid rumours as Germany job emerges as dream role
Jurgen Klopp's agent Marc Kosike has firmly denied links to Real Madrid, insisting his client is content at Red Bull. Reports suggest the former Liverpool manager's true ambition is to one day coach the German national team.
Jurgen Klopp’s agent has publicly dismissed speculation linking the former Liverpool manager to Real Madrid as “annoying”, while reports claim Klopp’s long-term coaching ambition is to lead the German national team.
Marc Kosike addressed the rumours directly, stating: “Jurgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a coach at a club.” Klopp has not managed a side since leaving Liverpool, taking up a position as global head of soccer within the Red Bull football franchise — a role that has seen him travel to clubs in the USA, Brazil, and beyond.
The denials have not silenced Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who has pledged to bring Klopp to the Bernabeu should he unseat incumbent Florentino Perez in the club’s ongoing election. Jose Mourinho is widely expected to be confirmed as Real Madrid’s next manager, though that picture could shift depending on the election outcome. Riquelme, a 37-year-old multi-billionaire, has made similarly ambitious promises regarding Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Klopp himself addressed the Real Madrid speculation in March, shortly after the club parted ways with Xabi Alonso. “If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now. But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once,” he said, adding that while he has not ruled out a return to coaching, nothing is currently planned. “For my age I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years?”
According to reports, the role Klopp does harbour ambitions for is the Germany head coach position, currently held by Julian Nagelsmann. Managing his home nation would represent a different proposition entirely from a club role — one that Kosike’s comments suggest Klopp is in no rush to pursue.
Riquelme, undeterred by the agent’s rebuttal, has argued that Real Madrid’s unique stature makes it a special case: “We know that Jürgen Klopp has publicly stated he has no intention of returning to the dugout in the short term, and that he has turned down numerous offers. That is precisely why we believe the challenge of Real Madrid is different. Because there are great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid.”
For now, Klopp’s position appears settled. His agent’s unambiguous language leaves little room for interpretation, even if presidential politics in Madrid continue to keep his name in circulation.
