Klopp's £4.25m Formby mansion sells nearly two years after his Liverpool exit
Jürgen Klopp's former home on Merseyside's so-called Millionaire's Row in Formby has sold, nearly two years after the German left Liverpool. The six-bedroom property, which previously housed Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rodgers, was listed at £4.25 million in October 2024.
Jürgen Klopp’s former Merseyside home has sold for a reported £4.25 million, nearly two years after the German manager departed Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season. The sold sign went up on the prestigious Victoria Road property in Formby this month, with the identity of the new owners unknown.
The detached house, situated in what locals call Millionaire’s Row, was first listed in October 2024 following Klopp’s move to Majorca. It attracted significant attention, with property website Rightmove reporting it as one of the most viewed listings of the year. Estate agent William Goulden described it at the time as “an exceptional home in a beautiful part of the country,” adding that “many will be aware of the property’s recent history.”
That history stretches back two decades. Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard purchased the home in 2005 after it was built by a local developer, and sold it to then-Reds manager Brendan Rodgers in 2015 when he departed for LA Galaxy. Rodgers was sacked that October but retained the property, renting it to incoming manager Klopp. Liverpool subsequently bought the house as a club investment in 2019 and are said to have allowed Klopp to remain rent-free.
Klopp moved into the property in 2015 with his wife Ulla Sandrock and their children, becoming a familiar figure in the Formby community. The family were regularly spotted at local pub The Freshfield, walking their dog on nearby beaches, and dining at local restaurants including Suay and Sorrento. Klopp was even seen watching a one-day match at Formby Cricket Club.
The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home sits within gated, manicured gardens and includes a grand entrance hall, open-plan kitchen and family areas, a cinema room, and a luxury spa room with jacuzzi and sauna. A two-storey gym complex and swimming pool complete the facilities. The master suite features two dressing rooms, an en-suite bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the garden.
Klopp’s successor Arne Slot and his wife Mirjam were shown around the property when Slot was appointed but chose not to take it on. The sale comes just days after Liverpool confirmed Andoni Iraola, 43, as the club’s new head coach.
