Jurgen Klopp has called on England supporters to keep faith in Thomas Tuchel after the Three Lions were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in World Cup qualifying Group L, leaving England top on goal difference ahead of their final group game against Panama on Saturday.

The former Liverpool manager, who now serves as head of global soccer for the Red Bull group of clubs, was unequivocal in his assessment of his fellow German coach. “Thomas Tuchel is an outstanding coach,” Klopp said. “Outstanding coaches sometimes have a draw. That’s crazy, huh? Yeah, it’s crazy! And sometimes you don’t score, and sometimes you’re unlucky, and all this kind of thing — that doesn’t kind of change my mind. He’s exceptional.”

Klopp acknowledged England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening fixture as a strong foundation, even if the performance was tighter than many had hoped. “The first game was super, was really good, tight — maybe tighter than everybody wanted — but they won it,” he said. “I couldn’t watch last night, but seeing the results, I know how the British media are. So stay calm.”

He also offered some broader perspective on the nature of World Cup campaigns, pushing back against the idea that a stumble automatically signals a deeper problem. “I don’t think there’s ever in the history of the World Cup a team who won all games. When you win the last game, you are world champions — that’s clear. But before those things can happen.”

England’s draw means qualification from Group L is not yet secured, but they remain in the driving seat heading into the Panama fixture. A positive result would confirm their place at the top of the group.

On the subject of his own future in management, Klopp was characteristically light-hearted. “Yeah, I do it every day, actually, to myself in the morning: ‘GET UP!’ — these kind of things,” he joked. “We will see, who knows, who knows.”
