Kane set to sign new Bayern contract as Barcelona transfer interest ends
Harry Kane is poised to extend his stay at Bayern Munich despite reported interest from Barcelona, with the England captain happy to remain in Germany and the two clubs in active contract discussions.
Harry Kane is set to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich, ending speculation linking the England captain with a move to Barcelona, according to a report from The Athletic.
Kane’s current deal expires next summer, but the 32-year-old opted against activating a release clause that would have required him to notify Bayern of his intention to leave back in January. The Athletic reports that Kane is “keen to remain in Germany despite Barcelona’s enquiry, and the Catalan club have been informed that he is happy in Munich.”
Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, confirmed in January that the club were in discussions with Kane over a new deal, and those talks appear to have progressed in the German champions’ favour.
Barcelona had been monitoring Kane as a potential successor to Robert Lewandowski, who is departing the Camp Nou at the age of 37 to join Chicago Fire in MLS after a successful spell in Spain. The Catalan club have a strong track record of extending the careers of veteran strikers, but Kane’s preference for Munich has closed off that avenue.
Since joining Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Kane has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football. He has scored 98 goals in just 94 Bundesliga appearances and 146 in all competitions, finishing as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in each of his three seasons. He played a central role in Bayern’s back-to-back title wins in 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Kane is currently on international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, where he has scored three times to become England’s all-time leading scorer in World Cup matches. He captained Thomas Tuchel’s side to victories over Croatia and Panama to finish top of Group L, with a last-16 tie against DR Congo at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia next.
At international level, Kane has scored 82 goals in 117 appearances across an 11-year England career and is closing in on becoming the first English player to reach 100 international goals. He is also in contention for a second World Cup Golden Boot, though he trails the current leader by three goals.
