Kane hails 'Wonderwall' singalong as favourite England moment after Croatia rout in Dallas
Harry Kane called the post-match 'Wonderwall' singalong with fans in Dallas one of his favourite moments in an England shirt after a 4-2 opening win over Croatia. The captain also revealed David Beckham sent him voice notes to mark his 115th cap milestone.
Harry Kane described singing Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall’ with England supporters inside the 70,000-capacity Cotton Bowl in Dallas as “one of my favourite moments in an England shirt especially at a major tournament”, after the Three Lions opened their World Cup 2026 campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia.
The England squad completed a lap of honour to thank the travelling support after the final whistle, with players and fans joining together on the Oasis anthem in scenes Kane was quick to single out.
“Just that moment singing ‘Wonderwall’ in the stadium, everyone knew the words, that was really special,” Kane said on the FA podcast Lions’ Den. “We knew there would be plenty of beer being thrown around back home. We love that stuff. All the players, Picks and I are on the other side now. But we love that and we are not disconnected from the fans. We know how much it means to them — I hope we can have some more special moments.”
Kane, 32, was also celebrating a personal milestone on the night, equalling David Beckham’s 115 caps to move level with him as England’s third most-capped outfield player behind Peter Shilton and Wayne Rooney. He revealed that Beckham, who grew up in the same area of Chingford and attended the same school, reached out twice.
“David sent me a nice voice note before and then after the game to congratulate me on reaching 115,” Kane said. “He said he knew how hard it was to reach that level and be that consistent, and he sent a message wishing the boys all the best as well. To have the same number of caps as him is pretty mind-blowing, to be honest.”
The Bayern Munich striker also noted that his tally of 10 World Cup goals now matches Gary Lineker’s England record at the tournament. “To get to 10 goals now for the World Cup, the same as Gary Lineker, is obviously really pleasing. I am feeling good and raring to go again,” he added.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, also 32, echoed Kane’s praise for the supporters and suggested the backing would only grow as the group stage progresses. “We are all passionate people, it gives an added edge, and we all love the atmosphere and thrive from it,” Pickford said. “I think we will see even more people coming across for the next games. We have to turn up so they enjoy it even more.”
