Harry Kane has called the post-match Wonderwall singalong one of his favourite moments in an England shirt after the Three Lions beat Croatia in their World Cup opener at the AT&T Stadium.

England’s players celebrated in front of the travelling support with the Oasis anthem ringing around the ground, a moment that visibly moved Kane and Jude Bellingham, who both appeared close to tears during the scenes.

“That was one of my favourite ever moments in an England shirt and especially at a major tournament,” Kane said. “I know it’s just the first game, and we’re not getting carried away, but just that emotional connection with the fans — we know how much it means to them. I think they see how much it means to us.”

“Singing ‘Wonderwall’ in the stadium, everyone knew the words, and that was a really special moment. As first games go, to have that kind of support from everyone — and we know back home is the same.”

Kane, who equalled David Beckham’s record of 115 England caps in the match, was speaking alongside goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on the FA’s Lions’ Den show. The pair have accumulated 200 caps between them and have been central figures throughout Gareth Southgate’s tenure, which produced two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.

Under new head coach Thomas Tuchel, who has spoken publicly about building a “brotherhood” within the squad, Kane says the group’s togetherness feels distinct from previous tournaments.

“This one feels a little bit different,” Kane said. “Our roles have changed a little bit, obviously, being the more experienced guys, the older guys. There aren’t many players from those early tournaments in this squad, so there’s a freshness about it — a hunger, a desire, and excitement from the players just to be part of what could be a special summer.”

Kane also stressed that the squad’s veteran players remain fully invested in a collective mentality, whether starting or coming off the bench, and pointed to the intensity of training as evidence of the group’s shared ambition.

“You see us around the place, everyone getting on, spending time together, but also you see it in training, the way we train, the intensity,” he added. “Hopefully we can have a few more moments like Wednesday.”
