Jorgensen asks to leave Chelsea after being frozen out by Sanchez
Filip Jorgensen has requested a permanent exit from Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Danish goalkeeper made just 12 appearances in 2025/26 and faces an even narrower path to first-team football next season under Xabi Alonso.
Filip Jorgensen has asked Chelsea to let him leave Stamford Bridge, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reporting that the 24-year-old Danish goalkeeper wants a permanent move after failing to displace Robert Sanchez as the club’s first-choice stopper.
Jorgensen arrived from Villarreal in the summer of 2024 for a reported €24.5 million, with the stated aim of competing for the starting position. That challenge never materialised. Sanchez retained his place throughout the 2025/26 season, restricting Jorgensen to 12 appearances across all competitions — only five of which came in the Premier League — during which he kept one clean sheet and conceded 17 goals.
The situation is set to worsen rather than improve. Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as head coach following a turbulent year, and the club will not be competing in European football during the 2026/27 campaign after failing to qualify for any continental competition. With a reduced fixture list, Alonso is expected to name a settled starting eleven, leaving little room for rotation and further limiting Jorgensen’s chances of meaningful game time.
Adding to the pressure on Jorgensen’s position is the imminent arrival of highly-rated young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders, whose signing would push the Dane even further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
This is not the first time Jorgensen has explored an exit. The goalkeeper previously sought a move during last season’s January transfer window before ultimately remaining in west London. Having now completed two of his seven-year contract, he is pushing for a resolution that the report suggests could suit Chelsea as much as the player himself.
