Jill Scott and Maisie Adam arrived 25 minutes after the 6.30pm kick-off at Soccer Aid 2025, held at London Stadium, having spent the afternoon co-hosting Channel 4’s Women’s FA Cup final between Manchester City and Brighton at Wembley Stadium. Cameras caught the pair taking their places on the England bench midway through the opening half, having made the roughly 23-mile journey from Wembley to Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Their late arrival did not appear to affect England’s overall performance, however, as the side went on to win 3-2 against a World XI managed by Olympic sprinting legend Usain Bolt.

Wayne Rooney captained the England squad, which was co-founded by Robbie Williams and managed by Harry Redknapp. Jermain Defoe scored a quickfire brace and actor Damson Idris added a third before Michael Essien and Tim Cahill pulled two back for the World XI in the closing stages, but England held on for the victory.

YouTuber Angry Ginge was named player of the match for the second consecutive year, earning the award on the back of a string of last-ditch blocks and clearances at the back. Rooney and Angry Ginge lifted the trophy together at the final whistle.

The World XI squad featured notable names including Edwin van der Sar, Jordi Alba, Leonardo Bonucci, Dimitar Berbatov, and Nemanja Matic, while the England side was bolstered by former internationals Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott, and Joe Hart, alongside actors Danny Dyer and Tom Hiddleston and television personalities Paddy McGuinness and Jack Whitehall.

This year’s event marks Soccer Aid’s 20th anniversary. The annual charity match raises funds for UNICEF.
