Jeremy Clarkson hands World Cup tickets to two England fans rather than sit in Boston rain
Jeremy Clarkson gave away two press tickets for England's World Cup group-stage draw with Ghana in Boston on 23 June, opting to watch from a private box instead after deciding he did not want to sit outside in the rain.
Jeremy Clarkson handed two World Cup tickets to a pair of ticketless England supporters ahead of the national team’s 0-0 draw with Ghana in Boston on Tuesday 23 June, after the TV presenter decided he would rather watch the match from an indoor box than sit in the rain.
Clarkson, 65, is in the United States covering the FIFA World Cup 2026 as a football correspondent for The Sun. In a video posted to X on Tuesday, he explained that the tickets had been provided by the newspaper but that the weather had changed his plans. “I had two tickets from them and then it’s raining so I thought, ‘I don’t want to be outside,’” he said, adding that he had access to “a posh box” regardless.
He found his recipients — electrical engineer Gary Collier and semi-professional footballer Derry Robson — outside the stadium, both wearing England shirts and without tickets. “We’ve got one. We’ve been trying all morning for them. Thank you very much,” Collier said on camera. Robson added: “We’re very appreciative.”
After England’s goalless draw with Ghana, their second group-stage match of the tournament, Robson — who plays for Pontefract Collieries in West Yorkshire — posted on X: “England away, thanks to @jeremyclarkson what a top guy!”
Clarkson had flagged the spare tickets publicly earlier in the day, writing on X: “I have two tickets for the England game in Boston this afternoon. Anyone want them?” A follow-up post clarified that prospective takers would need to already be in the city.
The gesture came weeks after Clarkson revealed in the penultimate episode of his Amazon series Clarkson’s Farm that he had been diagnosed with cancer, a diagnosis he had kept private since 2025.
