Injured Livramento ruled out of World Cup ahead of England's opening match
Tino Livramento, Newcastle's right-back, has been forced to withdraw from the 2026 World Cup due to a calf injury, on the eve of England's opening match against Croatia. Thomas Tuchel has called up Trevoh Chalobah as his replacement.
Tino Livramento will not play in the 2026 World Cup. The English Football Association announced on Tuesday the withdrawal of Newcastle United’s right-back, who suffered a calf injury, less than 24 hours before the Three Lions’ first match against Croatia, scheduled for Wednesday 17 June at 22:00.
At 23 years old and with six caps, Livramento saw this World Cup as his first major international tournament with England. The injury abruptly ends that prospect, depriving him of a showcase he had been waiting for since his international debut.
To fill this defensive gap, manager Thomas Tuchel has called up Trevoh Chalobah. The Chelsea defender, 26, offers a versatile profile, capable of playing centrally or on the flank. His trophy cabinet speaks in his favour: he has already won the Europa Conference League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, experiences likely to reassure the England staff as they integrate a squad in full preparation.
