Injured in training, Amoura to miss rest of group stage with Algeria
Mohamed Amoura has suffered a right thigh muscle injury and will be sidelined for at least two weeks. Algeria, already bottom of Group J after their 3-0 defeat to Argentina, must qualify without him against Jordan and Austria.
Mohamed Amoura will not play for the rest of the group stage at the 2026 World Cup. The Algerian striker suffered a right hamstring injury during training on Saturday and is expected to miss approximately two weeks of competition, according to DZ Foot.
The international with 47 caps and 19 goals is already ruled out for the decisive match against Jordan on Tuesday, June 23, and his absence against Austria on Sunday, June 28 also appears likely. Vladimir Petkovic thus loses one of his most important attacking players at the worst possible moment.
Algeria is experiencing a particularly difficult start to the World Cup. A week after their heavy 3-0 defeat to defending champions Argentina, the Greens find themselves bottom of Group J, without a single point and with an unfavorable goal difference.
The situation demands a must-win victory against Jordan, who were also beaten on matchday one by Austria (3-1). Without Amoura to pressure opposing defenses, Petkovic will have to find other solutions to revive a campaign that is turning into a nightmare.
