High winds force ITV's World Cup panel off New York rooftop mid-broadcast
Laura Woods, Juan Mata, Karen Carney, and Patrick Vieira were forced to abandon their outdoor rooftop studio in New York after fierce winds disrupted their live coverage of Switzerland vs Bosnia & Herzegovina on 18 June.
ITV’s World Cup broadcasting team was driven indoors on 18 June after strong winds made their outdoor rooftop studio in New York untenable during live coverage of Switzerland’s match against Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Presenter Laura Woods and pundits Juan Mata, Karen Carney, and Patrick Vieira were mid-broadcast when the severe weather took hold, with gusts strong enough to whip the panellists’ clothes and hair around and disrupt the segment entirely. The conditions left the team with little choice but to relocate.
Woods confirmed the move on air, explaining that the group had shifted to an indoor studio to escape the wind before beginning their coverage of the Canada vs Qatar fixture. The rooftop setup, intended to make use of New York’s skyline as a backdrop, was abandoned for the remainder of the broadcast.
