Greenwood to Roma: OM demands €55M, Romans offer only €40M

Mason Greenwood is on the verge of leaving Olympique de Marseille for AS Roma, but a gap of fifteen million euros still separates the two clubs in negotiations. Marseille refuses to let the English striker go for less than €55M, while Roma’s board has capped their offer at €40M.

Arriving at OM in summer 2024 from Manchester United for €26 million, Greenwood quickly became central to Marseille’s squad. His market value is said to have more than doubled since then, according to TransferMarkt estimates. When transferred from Old Trafford, United negotiated a resale clause worth between 40% and 50%, guaranteeing them a substantial share of any future sale proceeds.

Consultant Jérôme Rothen praised the English international’s contribution to a mixed Marseille season. “Fortunately he was there for much of the matches so at least OM’s season wasn’t as ridiculous as it already was,” he said. He also called on the club to maximize the sale amount to finance a collective rebuild: “It will bring in some money, and we’ll need to rebuild a squad, hopefully much stronger than it has been and less based on individual talents.”

If discussions between Marseille and Roma were to drag on, other clubs could enter the race for Greenwood. OM, for its part, has no intention of underselling one of the few bright spots in its 2024-2025 campaign.
