Anthony Gordon has completed a £69.3 million move from Newcastle United to Barcelona, signing a five-year contract with the La Liga champions. The 25-year-old England winger will relocate to Spain after representing the Three Lions at the 2026 World Cup.
Anthony Gordon has left Newcastle United to join Barcelona in a deal worth £69.3 million, signing a five-year contract with the La Liga champions. The 25-year-old England winger will move to Spain over the summer, with the transfer confirmed last week.
Gordon was selected by England manager Thomas Tuchel for the World Cup squad ahead of the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and is expected to feature in a friendly against New Zealand before the competition begins. He will focus on international duty before settling into life at the Catalan club.
Speaking at his official Barcelona unveiling, Gordon made clear the move was an easy decision. “As soon as I knew Barca was a serious option, there was never any question,” he said. “I always wanted Barca. Barca is the biggest club on the planet. It’s the stuff I dreamed of as a child. It really is a dream come true to be here.”
The winger added that he is under no illusions about the demands that come with the shirt. “I know it comes with a lot of responsibility, but I’m ready for this kind of challenge. I know the players in the past who’ve worn the shirt — it holds a lot of weight, but I’m excited for the challenge.”
Gordon’s long-term partner, Annie Keating, has accompanied him through every career move to date, including his time at Newcastle. The couple, who first met as children growing up in Liverpool, welcomed a baby boy in 2023. Whether Keating will relocate with Gordon to Spain remains to be decided, with the family’s move to a new country representing a significant step beyond his previous transfers within England.
