Olivier Giroud will make his debut as a television pundit when the BBC broadcasts Canada’s opening World Cup 2026 fixture against Bosnia & Herzegovina at BMO Field, with kick-off scheduled for 8pm UK time.

Gabby Logan, the Match of the Day host who has become a familiar face across the BBC’s major tournament coverage, will present the broadcast. She is joined in the studio by Micah Richards, a regular BBC contributor, and Giroud, who retired from playing and steps into punditry for the first time at a major international tournament.

Giroud brings considerable authority to the role. France’s all-time leading scorer, he broke the national record at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and won the tournament in 2018. Richards, meanwhile, built his reputation across a successful club career — most notably with Manchester City — and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics, though he never appeared at a World Cup as a player.

For Canada, the match carries historic weight. The North American nation is one of three co-hosts for the 2026 tournament alongside the United States and Mexico, and this fixture marks the first time Canada has ever hosted a World Cup match. Jesse Marsch’s side will be eager to make the occasion count in front of a home crowd at BMO Field in Toronto.

Bosnia & Herzegovina provide the opposition as Canada look to begin their campaign on the right note in what promises to be a landmark evening for Canadian football.
