Girondins de Bordeaux: administrative court delivers verdict on Friday
Relegated to Régional 1 after failed sporting appeals, Girondins de Bordeaux await Friday August 21 the Paris administrative court's decision, which could save them from judicial liquidation.
Girondins de Bordeaux will learn on Friday August 21 before 6 p.m. whether administrative justice grants them a reprieve. The Paris administrative court, seized as a last resort by the club, must deliver its decision following a hearing held Thursday, according to information from newspaper Sud Ouest.
The Bordeaux club has exhausted all sporting appeals. The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and the appeals commission of the French Football Federation (FFF) both confirmed the initial decision by the National Management Control Authority (DNCG): administrative relegation to Régional 1, the sixth national division.
Before the court, FCGB lawyers argued the club’s “new financial viability,” now backed by investment fund Sparta Capital. The goal is to obtain reclassification to National 1 — the fourth division — for the current season. A gap of two levels that is far from trivial: remaining in Régional 1 would expose the club to near-certain judicial liquidation.
Girondins’ liabilities total 26 million euros. The new investors must provide the court with sufficient financial guarantees to cover this debt and convince judges of the project’s soundness. The future of a club founded in 1881 and five-time French champion now rests on this demonstration.
